Coex Convention & Exhibition Center located in Samseong-dong of Gangnam-gu district, Seoul, is one of South Korea's largest convention and exhibition centers. It was designed by Larry Oltmanns who was a Design Partner with SOM at the time. The four-story center has four exhibition halls and 48 meeting rooms. It is operated by Coex Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Korea International Trade Association.
A Global Leader of the MICE industry. Since opening in March of 1979, COEX have provided a global exchange platform through exhibitions and international conferences and have become the MICE business hub of Asia and the greatest exhibition venue and tourist attraction with a range of infrastructures for global business.
The Coex Center is comprised of four stories above ground with a total of 36,007㎡ of exhibition space and a floor area of 460,000㎡. Four specialized exhibition halls can be partitioned into a total of 12 separate rooms, and include a convention hall with space for up to 7,000 people. The Coex Center also boasts 54 meeting rooms and office space equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a cutting edge building management system.
Coex has evolved into a leading culture-business platform, propelled by the opening of the new Coex Mall in 2014 and SM Town in 2015, and the designation of Gangnam as a ‘Special Tourist Zone’ dedicated to the MICE industry. Situated on Teheranno in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu district of Seoul, the site is part of the COEX complex which includes the convention and exhibition center, the COEX Mall, three luxury hotels, an urban airport terminal, a multiplex cinema, the COEX Aquarium, CoexArtium Theater, ASEM Tower and the Seven Luck Casino. Up to 200,000 people visit it for work and shop every day.
Coex is served by Samseong Station on line 2 of the Seoul Subway.
The 836-meter (914-yard) section of sidewalk along Yeongdong Boulevard from exit No.5 of Samseong Station on Seoul Subway Line 2, outside Convention & Exhibition Center and ASEM Tower is designated as a smoke-free zone by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
COEX Mall has undergone renovation and has fully reopened in December 2014.
